Create and manage workspaces

Creating a workspace is how you open a new private work area for a brand, site, or environment. In everyday life it is like renting a new office and putting your name on the door. In CROForge the person who creates it becomes Owner. From that moment, experiments, Data Vista, events, websites, users, and Smart Code for that project live only inside this workspace. Use the workspace selector or My Workspace to create more offices when production and staging, or two brands, must stay apart.

Words used on this page

WordEveryday meaningMeaning in CROForge
WorkspaceA team’s private work area. The container you create. It isolates experiments, Data Vista, events, websites, users, and Smart Code. Smart Code account-id equals this workspace’s id.
CreateMaking something new.Opening a new workspace from the workspace selector or My Workspace. You become Owner of the new space.
OwnerThe person who owns the office and has final say.The role you receive when you create a workspace. Full control over users, settings, experiments, and billing-adjacent decisions. Owner is usually not assignable later via invite.
Workspace selectorA switcher for “which office am I in?”The control in the app chrome. From here you switch workspaces or choose Create.
My WorkspaceThe “about this office” page for people who belong here.Surfaces workspace metadata and shortcuts for members of that workspace, including a path to create another workspace.
MetadataFacts about a thing rather than the thing itself, such as its name.Workspace name and related details shown on My Workspace.
NameThe label on the door. The workspace title you type at create time (for example “Marketing site – Production”). It appears in the selector.
Production (prod)The live, real-customer version of a site.A recommended separate workspace so live metrics are not mixed with QA traffic.
StagingA practice copy of the site used before going live.A recommended separate workspace for QA. Smart Code on staging should use the staging workspace’s account-id.
EnvironmentWhich “copy” of the world you are in (live vs test).Part of a good workspace name, such as Production or Staging, so agencies can switch quickly.
BrandA company or product name you work for.Part of a good workspace name when one CROForge account serves several clients or properties.
AgencyA company that runs work for several clients.Should name workspaces by brand plus environment so the selector stays readable.
MetricA number that tells you if you succeeded.Workspace-scoped. Mixing prod and staging in one workspace pollutes live metrics with QA traffic.
Smart CodeThe small script on the customer site.Install per workspace from Configurations → Websites and Apps after you create the workspace. Do not install from Settings.
Account-idA customer number.Equals the workspace id in Smart Code. Each new workspace gets its own id and therefore its own snippet.
Active / InactiveTurned on versus parked.Workspace statuses. Create and launch in Active workspaces. Do not use Inactive ones for new launches.
Billing-adjacentDecisions close to who pays the bill.Owners typically hold these decisions. Limit how many Owners you have so ownership stays clear.

Create a workspace

If you have just registered, the dashboard may already ask you to create a workspace because you cannot run experiments until one exists. If you already belong to a workspace, you can still create another from the selector.

  1. From the workspace selector or My Workspace, choose Create.
  2. Enter a clear name (for example “Marketing site – Production”). Include the brand and whether this is production or staging.
  3. Confirm. You become Owner of the new workspace.

After create, invite Admins and Members from Settings → Users, then register the site under Configurations → Websites and Apps so Smart Code points at this workspace’s account-id.

Best practices

PracticeWhy it matters in everyday termsWhy it matters in CROForge
Separate prod vs staging workspacesDo not mix dress rehearsal with opening night.Avoid polluting live metrics with QA traffic. Each workspace has its own events, Data Vista, and Smart Code account-id.
Name by brand + environmentLabel the door so the right team walks in.Easy switching in the selector, especially for agencies that manage many clients.
Limit OwnersToo many people with the master key is risky.Clear ownership for billing-adjacent decisions and access. Invite others as Admin or Member instead.

My Workspace

My Workspace is the “about this office” view for people who already belong. It surfaces workspace metadata (the name and related facts) and shortcuts, including create. It is not the same as Settings → General, where Owners and Admins edit company-oriented fields such as industry, data region, and timezone. Use My Workspace to understand which space you are in; use Settings to change how that space is configured.

Creating a workspace makes you Owner. Routine invites can grant Admin or Member, not Owner. Plan who should hold the owner role before you create extra workspaces.
